Christmas Break

School will be out for the Christmas Break from December 21st- January 5th.  School will resume on Monday, January 6th.

Christmas Wishes
I would like to take the time to wish all of you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.  Unbelievably, almost ½ of the school year is over and I have thoroughly enjoyed your children and your support.  We have a class of great kids who work hard and have wonderful personalities.  It has been a pleasure to have each of them in my class and to have the opportunity to get to know them.  I hope that you all have a joyous Christmas and that you are able to spend quality time with your families.  Merry Christmas to all of you and have a safe and memorable holiday season.

Angel Flight on Tuesday
Tuesday we will be going to the airport to see Santa Claus arrive with the other planes sponsored by the Eagle Scouts and Angel Flight.  It is a rare privilege that our school was selected from all of the schools in the state of Utah.  I strongly encourage every student to wear a heavy coat, hat, gloves, and shoes that will keep your feet warm.  The temperatures are forecasted to be in the single digits again on Tuesday.  After Santa arrives, he will ride on the fire engine back to the school and present a short assembly.  There are 15 other aircraft that will be bringing gifts to share with the students at our school.  We appreciate the pilots, volunteers, and Eagle Scouts who have all made this possible for the students at East Elementary.

Big Honkin’ Math Test
On Wednesday we will give our final chapter 3 test on decimals to the students.  To help prepare for this test I would suggest that the students do the math homework in their packets before Wednesday to help review some of the concepts.  If your child is struggling, I would be happy to give them some extra help after school or during the lunch hour.  Please let me know if you would like them to receive extra help.

Have a great week and try to stay warm!

Grade Check Up
There is a grade check up in this week’s homework packet.  Please take time to review your child’s progress on our major assignments and tests.  This is not their final grade, but just a progress monitoring report so that your child can self-evaluate how they are doing so far this quarter.  After you review their progress, please sign the orange colored paper and return it with the homework packet on Friday.  You may keep the actual grade report.  Thank you.

Division Homework
This week I am teaching the students a few different ways to come up with the quotient in division.  Students can elect which way they would like to solve the problems.  One of the key concepts this year with our new math program is to give the students an opportunity to learn several different ways to come to the conclusion and solve math problems.  This approach is not totally new, however, much more emphasis has been placed in giving students a variety of methods to complete their math.  If you need further demonstrations, you can access the Go Math website and view their demonstrations.
