Earthquake Engineering Activity

Each student will be given 30 marshmallows and 30 toothpicks to design a structure that can withstand an in-class earthquake (Jello). A demonstration was given in class today. Students can design an earthquake structure in any geometric design.  You are only allowed to use the 30 toothpicks and 30 marshmallows to make your structure.  The idea is to see which design may be the strongest in an earthquake situation.  Parents may help their children with this activity. Students need to bring their structure back on Friday. We will have a contest on Friday to see whose structure can withstand the infamous, “Jello” earthquake test.
